I have had the privilege of judging poultry for over 25 years throughout the United States, Canada & Australia.
In all my travels the need for judges has increased more and more over the years! Many community, county and state fairs are scheduled on top of one another and the superintendents (and those who hire judges) are often scrambling to find someone to judge the poultry and work with the young people in the 4-H, FFA and their youth programs. I am passionate about judging and working with young people who have an interest for standard bred poultry. Our vision with the poultry judging schools is to train, coach and mentor those who have a desire to judge poultry and enjoy working with people, especially young people!
At the PJS, you will learn the necessity of judging by the Standard of Perfection, you will be equipped with the skills to handle and select the best standard bred poultry. Another very important part of the training is learning how to work with people, a significant part of the judging experience. And finally, the showmanship contest; we will equip you to better understand the contest and how to work with different age groups.
Our emphasis is on the local level and targeting those who may never pursue becoming a licensed poultry judge. The Center for Poultry is committed to the American Poultry Association. We are not seeking to replace the apprenticeship program but to assist in equipping those who have never been connected to the APA. In all of our training we will encourage all of our participants to become members and to purchase the latest edition of the APA Standard of Perfection.
